Description
The Maltese cross also called the 8-pointed cross is represented by 4 branches. Its eight points symbolize the eight beatitudes according to Saint Matthew and the eight virtues that a member of the order must have: Frankness, courage, loyalty, mercy, solidarity with the poor and the sick, respect for the Church, contempt for death and glory.
The eight points also come to represent the eight languages of the Order which are: France, Aragon, Auvergne, Provence, England, Germany, Italy and Portugal.
